fearLESS Friday with Amy Seeley

Week 13

Today i have the honor of introducing you to my beautiful friend, Amy Seeley.  I've never before had such a love affair with music.  Her voice, her words, the way her soul pours out all over place--it just gets me every time.

After discovering her music and falling head over heels, i had the honor of meeting her in person.  At a small coffee shop, one lovely evening, i sat still & listened as she played the piano & sang her sweet heart out.  And i fell more in love.  And then we met & connected & it felt like we had known each other all along.

If you haven't yet experienced Amy, you must go to her site .  Grab a cup of something, sit back, turn up the volume and just listen.  And be prepared to fall in love.

Thank you for being here today, Amy.  And for bringing forth the makings that only you can make.

"you were made and set here to give voice to this, your own astonishment .  ~annie dillard, the writing life

this morning, like most mornings, i woke up and rolled out of bed straight to the french press . it’s my favorite time of day : coffee, my notebook, a pen, my dining room table, my eyes out the window.  i sit down to write, pen to paper, or so very often, fingers to piano keys .

in this time set apart, in stillness, my heart and hands give way to a flow of paragraphs ...

and then my head jumps in and ransacks the whole thing .

is this good enough?
my writing is boring .
this is dumb .
oh amy this is a waste of time .
no one is ever going to read this anyways .
that song will never be anything that matters .

these are voices that come often .

and i will admit to you that on this fearless friday, i don’t feel particularly fearless .

but dear souls, what i’m learning is this simple thing : to write in our vulnerability . write when it feels lacking . write when fears come . press into them, right to the heart of them .

and then write . write some more .

keep going ...

because of this simple truth that we must all hold close to our chests : what you & i are making actually matters . that the words / painting / sculpture / poem spilling out holds inherent value, just by its existence, because it comes from you, a unique creator, and only you, gifted & intricate and vulnerable soul, can create it .

you and i were made to trust our guts : that stirring you feel is telling you something you need to pay attention to , to invoke . to make tangible, to bring forth, spill out and share . and to be diligent in the makings that only you and i can make .

***amy is a singer/songwriter who takes harbor inside piano strings and collects words and beauty from the streets of portland, oregon .
