Finding the Beauty

"The true task of spiritual life is not found in faraway places or unusual states of consciousness. It is here in the present. It asks of us a welcoming spirit to greet all that life presents to us with a wise, respectful, and kindly heart. We can bow to both beauty and suffering, to our entanglements and confusion, to our fears and to the injustices of the world. Honoring the truth in this way is the path to freedom."    ~ Jack Kornfield

I am home today with a cold that's decided it's going to take right over.  I think it's stopped by to force me to slow it all down, let a bunch of things go and make room for some sitting and breathing.  It's amazing though, even with the all over aches and intense tired-ness, i'm finding it tough to stop DOing.  Like right now, instead of closing my eyes and taking a nap, i'm typing away on this computer.  And while i'm typing i'm thinking of all that "needs" to be done around here, all i "should" be doing; like unpacking from our weekend trip, laundry, grocery shopping etc..etc...the mind has such a hard time loosening its grip.

In spite of the yuckiness that this cold has brought, the sun is shining its nourishing light, the leaves are turning all shades of gorgeousness, the air is just cool enough and all around me is evidence of the beautiful life i have created; photos of my girls, the coziness of our home...simple things that bring so much joy when i slow down enough to notice.

I hope you are slowing down today, finding the beauty in whatever the moment brings.

  1. Oh Julia, I am sorry to hear that cold has gotten the best of you. Try to rest so that you can feel better. All those chores will be there later, when you start to feel better.
    Sending you get well wishes,
    Kelly

  3. that's so funny that i should happen upon your beautiful blog today with this post. a new friend taught me how to walk slowly today. literally, we went for a walk and i realized i am on such a fast pace. even when i tried to get her to walk a bit faster, she didn't. i completely took that as a i NEED to slow down and remember to walk slow. i couldn't believe how hard that was for me. obviously a good lesson.

i so hope you feel better! thank you so much for sharing your beautiful artwork! you've really inspired me! thank you!
