My Butterflies: A daily focus on beauty

And blessings

If I were called upon to state in a few words the essence of everything I was trying to say, it would be something like this: listen to your life. See it for the fathomless mystery that it is. In the boredom and pain of it no less than in the excitement and gladness: touch, taste, smell your way to the holy and hidden heart of it because in the last analysis, all moments are key moments, and life itself is grace. -Frederick Buechner

I am so inspired by the overflow of gratitude that is going on all around me.  Everywhere I turn I am finding gratitude lists, gratitude projects, daily lists on abundance, people speaking or writing about how grateful they are.  My dear friend, Lori Portka is in the midst of a gratitude project called A Hundred Thank Yousmy beautiful Taos friend, Melissa, is writing daily lists called Abundant Mind.  And there is an entire website that I have just recently discovered, called Good List Daily that is dedicated entirely to gratitude.

I have (very sporadically) kept my own little lists of thank yous, which are now buried in the notebooks/journals I've scribbled in over the the years.

In the last week or so, along with my daily getting quiet, I've been writing down all that I'm thankful for-and there is some kind of magical shift happening.  I'm actually dreaming gratitude.  It's been so opening and abundant.  It seems the more I make time for silence, the more time seems to open up, inspiration comes out of (seemingly) nowhere.  And the more I focus on all the beauty & blessings in my life, the more goodness keeps showing up.

So, I have decided that, along with my 41 days of getting quiet, I'm going to keep a daily list (that I will share here, at the top of the page) of "my butterflies."  The idea of calling these shiny, beautiful blessings butterflies was inspired by a dear friend of mine--thank you Chris.

Day 1:  2/24/11
today I'm so thankful for

1)  snow!  It's been snowing all day and is absolutely gorgeous.  We lit the gas fireplace early this morning, have been drinking hot tea & cocoa, the girls (along with some neighbor kids) built an adorable snowman...what a butterfly-y kind of a day.
2)    lit candles--make the house so cozy
3)    happy little girls with rosy cheeks
4)    heat
5)    hot tea and cozy slippers
6)    white tree brances
7)    beautiful music
8)    the ability to share with all of you
9)    deep breaths
10)  beautiful new connections with brave, living-their-dreams women
11)  morning moments of quiet
