Date Night With Lori

"She said she usually cried at least once each day not because she was sad, but because the world was so beautiful & life was so short."  Story People
(I found  this quote on Happy Mamma's other blog, thank you, Lisa)

Artwork by Lori Portka

Lately, I feel like I need to be pinched.  You know that feeling when whatever it is that's going on around you/inside of you just feels too good to be true?  Yesterday morning, I was sitting outside on my front deck, breathing in the air (that felt especially fresh after the night's heavy rainfall), listening to the singing birds, feeling the warmth of the sun on my body, and just thinking...oh my gosh, this is all so beautiful.  And the beauty is everywhere!  It's in that tree moving ever so slightly in the breeze, it's in the smell of the freshly cut grass, it's in that blooming rhododendron, it's in the little freckles on my little girl's cheeks...

And right after I had this moment, I read the post that Lori Portka wrote on her site about our time together and my heart melted into a sweet little puddle of love.  This beautiful woman who creates art that sends happy chills throughout my body and makes me want to skip and sing. This woman who exudes goodness and softness and strength.

I stumbled upon Lori's artwork first, before her blog, before email exchanges, and I immediately knew that this was a person I needed to know.  Isn't it incredible how healing and connecting art can be?  And from that initial love-at-first-sight, we connected through our blogs and then email exchanges and many notes of encouragement...and then (fast forward a year or two) we got to hug and talk and drink wine and giggle in person!  It was such a treat!  To think that we live on opposite ends of the country and connected in such a deep way, a connection that began with a brave woman pouring her love into her art and then having the courage to share it.  Thank you for being so brave and open-hearted, Lori.

Ahhh....I am continually amazed at what happens when we begin to nurture those precious seeds of inspiration, when we follow those nudges to connect and say thank you.  I am so grateful for it all.  Lori, you are so one of those people who has helped my soul to blossom, I'm so thankful for you.

If you haven't already had the honor of connecting with Lori, you must go check our her beautiful blog and artwork, you're in for a treat.

The two of us in Portland...isn't she gorgeous?

"Let us be grateful to people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom." - Marcel Proust

Today's fearLESS Friday stretch...
Have you had a nudge to reach out to someone lately?  To tell them you appreciate them....why don't you just do that today? Why wait?  It will make such a positive difference in their day and you never know what beauty might follow...
