Ordinary Treasures

"Normal day, let me be aware of the treasure you are.  Let me learn from you, love you, bless you before you depart.  Let me not pass you by in quest of some rare and perfect tomorrow.  Let me hold you while I may, for it may not always be so. ~Mary Jean Iron
Learning to Fly
This moment, the one that I had with this sweet, sweet three-day-old newborn baby goat yesterday, was one of the absolute sweetest I've ever had.  This little one got totally limp in my arms and almost fell sound asleep. I could have held her for days.  There was such trust there--she just let me hold her.

What a blessing it was to get so close to an animal that had only been alive for a couple of days.  I wish I could say that she belongs to me but she "belongs" to friends of ours who have a couple of goats (amongst many other animals) on their gorgeous piece of land.  Yesterday afternoon, our whole family had the opportunity to go see the sweet babies (there were two of them)....I wasn't expecting to be so deeply touched.

Such an ordinary thing, a baby goat. Like the thousands of other ordinary, beautiful blessings we pass by and run into each day...

Normal day, normal moment.
Please let me be aware of the treasure you are.
Let me learn from you, love you, bless you before you depart.
Let me not pass you by in quest of some rare and perfect tomorrow.

Let me hold you while I may.

  6. what a sweet experience so beautifully expressed - the wonders of a new life and the enjoyment of the moment.

  7. What a beautiful moment, Julia! That huge smile on your face, and oh, the tiny goat! Waaaah, it's so sweet!!!

It reminds me actually of last summer, when I went to Ireland with a huge bunch of family - aunts, uncles, cousins, siblings, parents and step-parents, grandparents, and distant relatives I'd never even met before.

On my first day there, my little cousin, who was 7 at the time (and who until that point I'd only met ONCE!), climbed into my lap and just let me hold him and love him for about 50 minutes. I too could have held him for days; he was so vulnerable, so innocent. Little did I know that for the rest of the holiday he would be an absolute tearaway, running around, full of beans. It made that initial experience that I'd had all the more special.

Thank you so much for reminding me of this.

  8. Beautifully said and a beautiful prayer to bring the "extra" to all things "ordinary"... thank you..:)
