The Sweetest Kind of Pride

I'm having a little trouble beginning this post-sometimes when emotions are at the height of their intensity, it's a little tough to put words to them.  I'm absolutely spilling over with pride for my little girl--my brave, beautiful nine-year-old who can be anything she wants to be.  My little, spirited one who ran 3.1 miles this weekend, a run she did as part of the amazing Girls on the Run program.  And maybe I'm bragging a little here (and ultimately it's not the time-thing that matters--I totally get that) but...she came in first out of all of her sweet teammates.  Seeing her out there running with her daddy, both of them with red/orange spray paint stuff in their hair, smiling, side by heart pretty much melted into a giant puddle of love.  Seeing all of the girls...pushing themselves, cheering each other on, believing they could and then crossing the finish line--oh my goodness.

And here she is, my brave, beautiful, precious little running girl.  Marielle Quinn, you are my inspiration.  I love you so.

"The divine is not something high above us. It is in heaven, it is in earth, it is inside us..." -- Morihei Ueshiba

Isn't she divine?

If you have a girl, I can't recommend this program enough.  I can't imagine anything more beautiful...a program that teaches girls to embrace themselves just as they are and to challenge themselves to be the best they can be.  It's so inspiring and what I want for us all.  Ahhh...big sighs.

We believe that
every girl
can embrace who she is.
can define who she wants to be.
can celebrate differences.
can rise to any challenge.
can challenge the world.

This is what I believe too.  This is what I know.

  1. This is awesone. I had never heard of this program. I was checking the website and see that there is no chapter in my area (Orange County, CA). I was trying to figure out if there is any info about starting one, but I didn't see any info on the website and could not find contact info either. Do you have any info you can share? Thanks!

  2. wow, that sounds like a beautiful thing. What a sweet thing your daughter must be!! (And it's okay to brag a little too!) :)

  3. Gail, I'm going to pass along the email address for the woman who is in charge of the program in my area...she should be able to pass along any info. you want. Here's her email address:

So very good to have you here!

    With love,

  4. OMG_ LOOK at her! How amazing it must be for you to be the mother of two girls. I can't imagine what it must be like to have you for a mother. I just stopped and thought about that for a second and I felt this rush in my heart that made me want to tear up. You are so conscious and present.

Ack, I've missed you!!!! Going to catch up now. Love you

  5. Celebrating with you and your daughter! What an awesome experience, and I hope life brings you many, many more.

  6. Congratulations Marielle!

How wonderful this is. There is so much beauty in this world. So much hope. This program looks amazing. I am in awe.

  7. Must have been a beautiful sight seeing M and M running together <3

Sounds like you've found a great thing for her to be a part of...and...running in her mom and dad's footsteps! She's glowing!

  8. I just loved that day. What proud parents we all were to see our little ones running. What a wonderful program. I wish I'd had something like that as a kid! Big cheers for M and M, and my M:)

  9. She is so spirited, so divine... wow Marielle, I am really inspired :) xxx

  10. Hi Julia - your little girl is divine, she is precious - as a mom of two girls i know how your heart can sometimes burst with love for them - i always say the best thing in my life with nothing coming close are my two girls.

  11. Congratulations to your beautiful little girl. So amazing isn't it, to watch the life of another unfold and blossom into their own brightness. Thanks so much for sharing the link. My daughter is too young yet, but I have watched my son train for a run with an inspiring coach, and it was beautiful to experience, for all of us.

What are you thinking/feeling? I'd really love to know...

♥ Julia
