Go Within

"When you sit quietly and let go of every false self-definition, of everything you think you know about who you are, and then be what's left, what remains is the untarnished presence of who you've always been and still are.  This untarnished presence manifests--shines--as pure, clear awareness and unconditional love.  When you experience your essence, you will feel this natural loving-ness within yourself without having to do anything!"   Erich Schiffmann

Yesterday I picked up a book that has been sitting on my bookshelf for years. The book is entitled Yoga, The Spirit and Practice of Moving Into Stillness by Erich Schiffmann.  I don't even know where the book came from, I just followed a nudge that said, go pick that book up.  And now that I've picked it up, I can't put it down.  Every time I read a section, I have to stop for a minute and marvel about how, what he's saying, is so totally, completely in alignment with everything I know to be true, everything I've experienced to be true.  And he says it so clearly and eloquently.  I'm only a few pages in and I'm having to hold back from underlining every single passage I read.  And my body is craving yoga in a deeper way than it ever has before.

Anyway, everywhere I turn, I'm hearing the same thing:  get still, go within, listen.

On day eight of 41 Days of Learning to Love This Body of Mine, in a nutshell,  this is what I'm getting: The answers are always within.  When I, on a moment-to-moment basis, pause and consciously tune IN to what my body wants/needs, when I ask it what I can GIVE it, there is always an answer.  And I can absolutely trust that answer.

Our minds want more than anything to complicate all of this, seeking and trying to come up with the perfect formula, the "perfect" thing out there that has nothing to do with what we uniquely need.  I am finding that I possess every bit of wisdom I've been forever seeking.

In our third Soul Talk, Alia and I discuss the shifts that have occurred around the body in the last seven days and how it really all comes back to the same thing.

  1. Oh, I so agree, Julia. It's all within us - and we just forget.

And sometimes, when I remember, I just laugh out loud...

Thanks for the book idea and the reminder...

    XOXO

  2. I have had such a strong urge to go within lately. It just feels like what is necessary for me right now. Thank you for sharing this here today...and for our Soul Talk! Yoga is sounding like a very inviting thing today. I think it's time to dust off the purple mat. :)

So much love to you. xo

  3. Julia and Alia,
Thank you for this <3 With the insights you shared in this soul talk, I feel like I should officially begin my 41 day journey today; I feel that now I really know how to begin to take action. The path to loving my body feels illuminated, whereas before I was merely drifting, trying to do my best to take on this daunting task.

Starting today I'm going to listen, listen, listen and tune in! It's funny, because a part of me feels like that is so tedious and time consuming, when in reality the guilt I feel when I don't listen to my body takes up so much more effort and time. For the next 41 days "tune in and listen" will be my mantra. I have a feeling it's going to be life changing!

So much love to both of you,
    Grace

  4. Oh Grace, I am so happy to come here today and read your words. We are with you on this journey of tuning in and deeply listening to what our bodies are asking for. It really does take up so much more energy when we don't listen rather than really tuning in to the wisdom that is within us.

"Tune in and listen" This will be my mantra as well. :)

Right here with you on this path.
    So much love,
    Alia

  6. ahhh...taking a deep breath here, Grace. I love your mantra, tune in and listen. It really does come down to this, for everything, really. Your point about the guilt, the energy it takes when we don't listen taking up so much more time is so very true! Not to mention how life-sucking it can be when we ignore our precious selves. I'm thinking of that Rumi poem about the body being a temple...what if we all really treated our bodies as the temple it is? I'm actually finding that tuning in can be as simple and un-time consuming as taking a few deep breaths and simply asking & listening...so simple.

Christa, Alia, Grace, Rachel, thank you so much for your beautiful presence here, you all warm my heart.

    With love,

    Julia

  7. I take notes when I listen to Soul Talks...and my paper has printed in caps the words "TUNE IN!". I also wrote that I need to ask what I can give myself that will be nurturing.

Such valuable lessons, thank you for sharing your wisdom in this way. It all applies to so many other areas of life, as you said in your talk.

I began a Yoga class a week ago and just know that this is going to be very helpful for me. Learning to love this body of mine one step at a time.

  8. This 41 day adventure and your related soul talk are reaching deep into your life and the lives of others!!! The power of the blogging community that you have created...

    From Bikram's site:

"Bikram Yoga helps balance the emotions in several ways.
Physiologically, regular practice harmonizes the nervous and endocrine systems, two systems which figure heavily in emotional well-being.

In addition, practicing Bikram Yoga cultivates the mental faculties of faith, self-control, concentration, determination, and patience. As we become more aware of our inner life, we notice how events, interactions, and even the atmospheric pressure effect us. When we are aware, we can exercise choice in our response. This helps us balance our emotional life."

Through this practice, Tuning In and Listening deepens!! I love yoga!!!! :)
