Nature Never Repeats Herself

"Nature never repeats herself and the possibilities of one human soul will never be found in another."  -Elizabeth Cady Stanton

Photo found here.  I'm in love with this little birdie.

On the agenda for today....

A quote that I can't stop thinking about
Book talk
Summer!
Things I have to share

As I was searching for the just right Father's Day card last weekend, I came upon a card with the above quote written on it.  And something happened...my inside places fluttered with resonance, something inside me perked up in recognition and said pay attention to this.

Too often I see people, or read about people or have conversations with people, who have decided to back down from their deepest stirrings, from what is calling them, because they feel like it's already been done, that there's already too many of this or too many of that out there.  They think, what do I possibly have to offer that's different?

This is really the perfect question.  And the answer is crystal, sparkling clear.

You have YOU to offer that's different.

You may want to be a life coach in the sea of so many life coaches, you may want to be an artist in the sea of so many other artists, you may want to be a writer among so many others, or, or, or--fill in the blank here. You may tell yourself that the world is already saturated, that "it" has already been done. But it hasn't already been done because it hasn't been done by YOU.  If you don't show up as you and do your thing, in your very own unique way (NOT in the way they do it)---it won't happen.

The possibilities of one human soul will never be found in another.

In Tara Mohr's touching poem, "You-Shaped Hole," she writes:

The world has a you-shaped hole in it.
It is missing what you see.
It lacks what you know.

And so you were called into being.
To see the gap, to feel the pain of it, and to fill it.

To fill it.  In the way only YOU can.

On another note!  My books are here!  Here, as in they are stacked up, many boxes of them, in my art room.  Those of you who pre-ordered (thank you!), your copy has been signed and will be on its way in just a couple of days!  It's so amazing to see these shiny new lovelies sitting around my home...knowing they are mine, that I did this, and that they will soon be in your hands makes me giddy.  And humbled and so very grateful.

If you haven't already gotten your signed copy and you're called to buy this creation of mine, click HERE.

Here are just a few of the beauties...

Today is the last day of school for my little ones so things are about to rapidly shift gears around here. (Yikes!)  There is a part of me that is really excited about this and another part that feels a little panic stricken.   A lot of letting go will be necessary, for sure.  It is my intention to sink into these summer days with my little beauties (who really aren't so little anymore) while they are young enough to want me around.

***If you haven't already gotten the latest copy of Sprout magazine, you really should get yourself a copy.  There is magic in these pages.  And Amanda Fall (the brilliant creator behind this magazine) is one of the most open-hearted, beautiful people I know.  Plus, my poem "Freefall" is living in these pages.

If you haven't yet had the privilege of reading Judy Clement Wall's Love Essays and you want to read some of the most touching, love-infused, brave writing ever, click HERE.  They are truly, truly soul-stirring--make sure you have a box of tissue nearby.

Happy, happy summer, beautiful people!

  1. Oh Julia! You have so much going on! It's absolutely wonderful. I just ordered my copy of your beautiful book. I can't wait to hold it in my hands! Just to think, this baby used to be inside of you and now it's out in the world with a life of its own. Amazing!
    Happy summer sweet sister!

    1. Beautiful Leah. I love these words you left for me, I love that you will be holding my book soon and that I will be holding yours (I can't wait!).

I can't stop thinking about these words: "this baby used to be inside of you and now it's out in the world with a life of its own." I love thinking about this creation of mine like this, somehow it gives me a feeling of total release and acknowledges the significance of what this is for me. I'll keep coming back to these words...

Thank you, Leah, for the precious gift of you.

Happy summer! It's time to have some summer fun, don't you think? !

  2. Love your thoughts on this, Julia. I had a journal entry a few weeks ago that I titled "Just because it’s been done a thousand times doesn’t mean you can’t do it your own unique way" after seeing this demonstrated so well by Edward Reid singing nursery rhymes on Britain’s Got Talent in Diva style. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=xVkURlcF63Q Will make you laugh and cry!

    1. Thanks so much for leaving your words here, Pam. I followed the link and was totally touched--thanks so much for passing that along. It really is amazing what happens when we just embrace what makes us us.

I'm so happy that we have crossed paths.

      Sending love to you today.

  3. Dearest Julia, I feel as though I've been pouring out my heart to you for the past 24 hours. Can it ever be too much? Thank you for this beautiful quote and post. Thank you for your beautiful book. It is the place I will turn to (even just randomly flip open for the perfect message) to open my heart, to keep moving step by step as I load up the moving van and stake out a piece of real estate on the other side of fear. Thank you for helping us arrive there, and thank you for having the courage to step out and give this book to us, that holds a perfect essence we are all trying to center with, brought to us by the perfect right now voice of your journey, that is our journey. I will use this book again and again to return to my center--and you make it effortless for me to open again and again, and to see through you beautiful poems and art that breathes. Don't ever change a thing about exactly who you are.

PS Thank Pam for the nursery rhyme video. It was so fun to watch!

    1. Brooke. You really are a miracle. I have this real-life, right-beside-me angel that always whispers the most validating, I-see-you things in my ear. What more can I ask for? Your seeing me has made the most significant difference in my life...a gift beyond words.

Thank you for loving my book the way I prayed it would be loved...a gift I can't possibly thank you enough for.

      Love and more love.

    2. Thank you for this, Julia. It is my joy to see you, and my joy to watch you birth your beautiful book. I know that it will help hold so many steady to move in the directions of their dreams/soul. It is I who am thankful beyond words for your book, and how it keeps my heart open--which is so necessary to keep opening for more and more light.

  4. Lovely post! Your words are so, so true. We often fail to see our individual beauty as human beings and let our fears hold us back from living our true potential. Thank you for the reminder, so important in a time when our culture teaches us we are never good enough.
