One day

she woke up and decided to love herself
more than she ever thought possible...

A beautiful friend of mine recently gave me this card & I love it so much.  I've taped it to my bathroom mirror, the one I look in every morning and every night.  It reminds me to breathe.  Each time I look at it, I ask the same question; What would that look like--to love myself more than I ever thought possible?

I know that I want to always be moving toward this greater love for self.  I know it is the love, or lack of, we give, or don't give, to ourselves that affects all else.  When we fill ourselves first, that fullness can spill over onto others in a real and authentic way...no need to sacrifice ourselves, or deplete our precious energy supply to please others.  From this place of pleasing ourselves, all else flows.  I'm sure of this.

So, this morning, in the 3 hours I have to myself before picking up my little ones from "Harry Potter camp," I am asking myself what this loving myself would look like for me today.  Here are the answers that have come...

Take deep, conscious breaths
Step away from the computer for the rest of the day (after I post this!)
Stay where I am, not allowing my thoughts to pull me into worry and planning.  Let go of energy-draining stories
Stretch my tired, sore body
Let the hell go of things I have absolutely no control over
Choose to trust that all is exactly as it should be, find the gifts in what IS
Say thank you for all of the abundance in my life
Meditate (something I did just before coming here)
Choose to trust that my way is just right
Walk on the beach with my dear friend Jill and listen closely to the sounds of the sea

Okay, it's your turn now.  What would loving yourself look like for you today?

P.S:  My beautiful friend, J, shared a poem & a painting of mine on her blog yesterday.  And she wrote words about me and my book that made me feel so held and loved.  Next week she will be publishing an interview (with the 2 of us)!  and there will be a giveaway of one of my books!  I'm so excited about all of this.  Stay tuned!

I am so grateful for you, J, and for this incredibly supportive community of loving people that I get to be a part of.

P.P.S:  Those of you who have ordered books, they are on their way!  Or they are already there.  Ah, such vulnerability with all of this.  And such beauty.

Thank you for being here.

  1. This is exactly what I need today, my friend. It's a rainy morning and I'm feeling the much-needed exhale after quite an intense week. It really does come down to loving ourselves. Everything stems from that.

    Loving you

  2. I cannot even tell you how much I needed that card today. I feel like you passed it on to me! I'm feeling like what I'm putting out into the world is falling flat. Thanks to you I'm reminded that I need to be loving myself more rather than worrying about the lack of love coming my direction!

    Bless you!

    1. I so understand that feeling, Miriam...of feeling like what you're putting out there is "falling flat," I have felt that feeling many times and it's hard.

I have seen, over and over again, that when I shift my focus on what I can give rather than what I'm not getting...everything shifts. This card helps me keep my eye on what matters most. So very happy it spoke to you today.

Thank you so much for stopping by, Miriam. I'm sending you love.

  3. Our capacity to love others is directly proportional to our capacity to love ourselves; I absolutely believe that. xo

  4. Dear Sweet Julia,
That card is amazing! I love it's simple message, and all those colors. Thank you for bringing me to center this morning. Calling me to love myself and take very good care of myself.

I haven't started my official day yet. So far I've been visiting blog friends in an attempt to catch up and connect.

Today I already know that I am helping my daughter clean her apartment. Woopie! LOL!! Actually, I love that time together with her...doing a good job so that she can sit and enjoy her lovely digs. Before the cleaning we will have lunch. After the cleaning we will watch episodes of The Big C, while snacking on Hobnobs sent from the UK by a sweet guy. Then I shall return home.

The thing I intend to do throughout this day is to love each moment of it. Take it all in as a gift. Loving myself means being present and sharing myself with loved ones. It also means believing that things are as they should be... this brings me so much peace.

Geeze, I think I've drunk too much coffee. I'm rambling;)
I love you Julia. Thanks for being so beautiful.
