It's so easy (though painful) to be hard on ourselves. It's so easy to feel pulled in dozens of directions all at once, to feel overwhelmed and not enough, to drive ourselves utterly berserk with second-guessing & indecision. It's so easy to feel like we should be doing that when we're doing this.
But what if, as Hafiz so eloquently asks, what if we stopped throwing sticks at our own heart? What if we stopped pushing against ourselves, stopped fighting and started to believe that every thought and action, every dream and vision is sacred? In other words, what if, rather than pushing against, we decided to meet it all with gentleness, compassion---love?
Can you imagine the difference?
* * *
Now is the Time
By Hafiz
Now
is the time to know
That
all that you do is sacred.
Now,
why not consider
A
lasting truce with yourself and God.
Now
is the time to understand
That
all your ideas of right and wrong
Were
just a child's training wheels
To
be laid aside
When
you finally live
With
veracity
And
love.
My
dear, please tell me,
Why
do you still
Throw
sticks at your heart
And
God?
What
is it in that sweet voice inside
That
incites you to fear?
Now
is the time for the world to know
That
every thought and action is sacred.
This
is the time for you to compute the impossibility
That
there is anything
But
Grace.
Now
is the season to know
That
everything you do
Is
sacred.
Oh Julia, you have such a knack for posting the right thing at just the right time.
ReplyDeleteWhat if we accepted all things that flowed into us as sacred lessons and leaned into the blade so as not to waste one second of the pain?
Life is all there—all of the time...one continual sacred moment for one thoroughly sacred soul.
Sending love to you beautiful Julia! <3
Dear, dear Leah. You are such a treasure-of-a-person. Gosh, how I adore you. You have this incredible knack for making me feel so seen & heard--I don't think there is a better gift than that.
ReplyDeleteAnd what a way you have with words (and with love)...
"What if we accepted all things that flowed into us as sacred lessons and leaned into the blade so as not to waste one second of the pain?"
...leaned into the blade. So beautifully put.
You are adored & appreciated hugely, my friend. Thank you for being right here.
Wow.
ReplyDeleteAnd, just think...if we really understood our own sacredness we could then see the sacredness in everyone around us. And wouldn't that change a few things?!
Thank you for giving me this new awareness with your words, dear friend.
"if we really understood our own sacredness we could then see the sacredness in everyone around us."
DeleteAh, yes, Deb--so true. Everyone & everything. That would definitely change a few things.
Sending love to you today, beautiful woman.
Wow, this is just what I needed today. In the pain of difficult conversations and misunderstandings and judgments...
ReplyDelete"what if, rather than pushing against, we decided to meet it all with gentleness, compassion---love? Can you imagine the difference?"
In little glimmers, I sort of can. Thankful for you and your voice, Julia, that echoes above the wounds.
I'm so happy this is just what you needed, dear Ashley. I am here loving & embracing you through all the pain and difficult--all the happy too...
DeleteThank you for being one of my little (though not little at all) glimmers.
