THE QUESTION

Just for today
let's pretend
we don't have these bodies
skin, scars, bones - weathered fence
that keeps it all in

Instead we would be
here
one heart beating
to the rhythm of everything, everywhere
mountain, tree, rock, wild wind
nothing
in the way

Do you hear it?

All of it is asking
and asking
the same ancient
question

What is that thing stamped into
your bones-that thing that won't stop
calling your name?

There is a reason

and it's all
yours

will you step
toward
or away?
